Carson Daly recently re-upped with MTV for another two years, and how does the network reward the ''TRL'' host? By making him the butt of celebrity jokesters. He'll be the first target/honoree on MTV's new series of roast specials, ''Bash,'' debuting on July 13. Paying dubious homage to Daly will be such MTV mainstays as Britney Spears, Madonna, and Nelly.
Also scheduled to appear on the show, to be taped June 28 at the Hollywood Palladium, are Jessica Simpson, Papa Roach, 98 Degrees, Lit, Usher, and Carmen Electra and the burlesque troupe, the Pussycat Dolls. Viewers worried that none of these people has ever been funny (on purpose) will be relieved to know that there will also be some experienced roasters on hand. Comics on the bash bill, many of them veterans of the annual down-and-dirty Friar's Club shindigs, include comics Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Carolla, Andy Dick, Sarah Silverman, and Jeffrey Ross, who is partially responsible for reviving the whole TV roast tradition, having helped bring the Friar's Club evenings to Comedy Central. ''Thanks a lot, Jeffrey,'' Daly is probably muttering.
