You're right, Stephen King hates to see his novels made into good films. That's exactly why he didn't like Kubrick's version of The Shining. I know that if I'm ever published and someone adapts my novel into a brilliant screenplay, I'll be pissed as all hell.

Actually, Stephen King has flat out stated that it is a beautiful film, but flawed. The main issue being that Nicholson played the part seemingly insane from the very beginning of the flick, while he would rather have seen Jack slowly sinking into dementia...

Personally, I see the two as separate entities...there's The Shining, the novel by Stephen King and The Shining, the Kubrick flick.
