: feel that they've done something wrong and therefore read far more into what you say than you actually meant to imply. The it turns into this big deal, and since they're so convinced they are right- You know, I don't think I'm helping.
...if I was him, I'd just keep quiet from now on. Talking to people usually results in them getting pissed off, so just keeping your mouth quiet is the best option. With any luck, people will begin to think of you as a 'really good listener'.
: And if I was a hermit, I'd totally find a great cave in the middle of the woods, somewhere warm all year round, and walk around compltely naked all day. Squirrels would come to fight off bears, and the badgers and moles would give me someplace to sit and put my feet up. Oooh- and I'd absolutely have to find some lost kid, and take him back to civilization. I'd tell his prents in halting, broken English that it really was no trouble, but could they please keep their kid from pissing on my lawn. Then the news would run the story as a human-interst piece, and everyone would learn the lesson that they should leave me the hell alone in my woods-cave, but they'd love me for helping the kid.
: Yeah, that would be grand.
-- Caves are a little over-done in the field of hermitism, but that does sound good. I'm still sticking with my elaborate scheme of underground tunnels though. I'd have a legion of moles as well, to help with the tunnel-digging, and also to steal me delicious pic-a-nic baskets from unsuspecting families.
