Saw Freaks today at the localish cool old (100 years)movie house (pic included). They showed it in its original 35 mm print (I think that's right..) They played a cool Betty Boop (Snow White) short before it that featured Cab Caloway. Very cool.
And that movie is so original....I am not quite sure how I feel about the characters, I wavered between....wow, neat people, to, how sad. I had a hard time understanding the female dwarf lead, her speech was not clear..may have been the film though.
The movie house is way cool in and of itself... (linked for my stalkers, who may be keeping track). Part of the movie "The Blob" were filmed here, and they reenact the scene every year where the patrons run screaming out of the theater (I did it and was on TV!)
They always show artsy movies other places won't carry, and often theater volunteers who are extreme movie buffs will get on stage before the film, and either do a skit introducing the movies, or just talk about the movie, odd facts...info about the actors, good stuff. For freaks they talked about how the guy who walked on his hands (if you have seen it you know who i mean) was robbed in the mid 1990s. They broke into his house and sat on him, while the other thiefs ransacked the place. This bothered him so much he became a recluse until his death a few years later.
On Wednesdays the theater patrons invade my living ro....I mean the coffee house and have movie discussion groups, sometimes inviting the directors to talk about their flick.
Anyway its a cool place that they are restoring, so if your wealthy..send them some money, they are very poor, but very cool. Hmm I bet they would do a Kevin Smith day....I'll talk to them.
