I do have a reading recommendation for him (and everyone, really):

"The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" by Jose Saramago. It's pretty dark and twisted and apparently caused Saramago to be excommunicated from the Church, but if you like strange new interpretations of ancient gothic tales...go for it.
