My grandfather was a combat engineer and landed at Utah with the 8th Infantry on D-Day. He's only really even started talking about it (to me, at least) in the last few years, and it makes me love Band of Brothers even more. He said that he never saw anyone from the 82nd or 101st because they were always in front of him.
It's remarkable that in many of the major battles in Europe, of all the battallions involved in the war, two airborne divisions lead the advance.
