To Kevin or anyone in the know (film making)

Hi,

I've got a few screenplays and I'm toying with the idea of making one of them myself.

What is the best format to film them in. I have a Cannon MV600i digital video camera.

I guess you will all say that if you can film things with it then it is fine, but what about if I want to submit to film festivals/competitions? What do I need.
