A Quentin or a Smith fan?

Does anyone think there are big splits between Quentin fans and Kevin Smith fans? I'm a fan of both but I find a lot of my friends who like Quentin hate Smith and those who like Smith hate Quentin. Is this true elsewhere? I'm also a big Paul Thomas Anderson fan too. Punch Drunk Love was good but Magnolia is still awesome.
