Your right, "real world" was a bad choice of words. More like, "Livablity." When you build a charcter, you have to be able to say, "Yeah, that's what I would do." or "I bet that down the hall does that." You have to have feeling that he's true to his own personality. Your grand hero may breath fire, but if he suddenly starts killing people with it, he's not real, especial if you build him to be a man of morals then suddenly betrays that without reason.
