: :::It will almost always ruin a friendship when you take things further. I did that once and promised myself to never do it again. You just end up losing someone you respected. It sucks. You can have a best friend in a significant other, but I have always found that it happened after being in a relationship for awhile. We eventually became best friends.
That's what happend with me. I found my best friend while dating him. There were 2 "friends" that I tried to date and it didn't go well. The first, I still see occasionally, but we were never close again. And just before I got married, he gave the "if I could go back" speech and said he kept all the notes I wrote him and a cd that I gave him for his 16th birthday that goes everywhere with him... That was 8 years later. Sad...
The other, I have no relationship with whatsoever. I saw him a couple of years ago at a restraunt and had a strained conversation. It was all very wierd. So I know what you mean by not respecting them.
