Here are my notes (Take them as you will keeping in mind that I am also right now drying a whale shaped bath mat in my basement and am considering jerking off before bed)…
So
Open is very Noting Hillish, nice! I mean I know I’m watching a well-produced Hollywood film. Tells me right away this isn’t Clerks (Meant well). Throughout I love the feeling that the guy that wrote ‘Clerks’ made this but it’s so much brighter, cleaner, like Jaramusch (sp?) wrote ‘Titanic’ or something. I stopped making sense here but if you were in my basement right now you’d be like “oh I got ya, good”.
“I’m just kidding its Miss” (Jen coveys funny and endearing in a second)
1st transition is smooth and clean.
“Forget about the baby, I just…” and “You and your mother took” are HARSH if that’s the intension then good. If it’s not… then know I thought it felt like Ben yelling at and about a cute little girl.
Bad music loop (Superman) at “You and your mother took”
Best daddy in the world transition to montage (could the music start earlier maybe during Ben’s voice over?) It brings everything to a halt, then the montage keeps it there, stays too slow and I start wanting it to end.
Reaching hands… Nice!
“Forget about what you thought you we’re and just accept who you are” is a GREAT line! (poster?)
Seeing (a dead) Jen and hearing her say “You are an excellent father” stops me from enjoying the “intensions” joke at the end. Dead mom to laugh trans is too quick for me. Leaves me in flux... don’t know how to feel.
Ben’s look conveys his own change well.
Looks great! Yea Vilmos!!!
“Forget the baby” to “Miramax International Presents” feels like the last third and the montage feels like the second third. It’s not flowing.
But I love you man and would see the film if it was 2 minutes of whites noise your name and the open date…
