Your mom is cool, treasure her :-)

Strange, but despite the fact that I'm going towards the big three-oh faster than I'd like, I'm still kind of afraid to show Dogma to my parents. It deals with issues that we've ENDLESSLY discussed in our family, our view of God greatly parrallels the view portrayed in the film, but I'm worried my parents might misunderstand it - mostly because of stuff like the poop-monster and our beloved Jay's profanity.
It's an ongoing issue in our family - my faith, or lack of (?), rather. I don't know if anybody saw the flick "Le Dieu est grande, et je suis toute petite" - (God is great and I'm small - whatever the English translation is) the "Amelie" girl is in it. She basically tries out all of these religions, never once finding what she's really is looking for. I've been through all that. For a year-or-so I thought of myself as a Baptist, until it "wore off", While in India, I've tried to get in touch with God in many-many ways...worked, to an extent, but not really. Something was missing. The Catholic dogma - the sermons, the monotony, the boredom, the fear, the prejudice - all the things I hated going to Church for - mostly the local priests' complete and utter detachment with reality - I had to discover, that these things, or certain aspects of these things, namely the RITUALS are part of the magic to me... When I saw Dogma, I saw all those things in a "different and beautiful light". I was born a Catholic, so I'm a Catholic, I already have a religion, don't need to find another one, because there aren't right or wrong religions. I can be a Catholic in my own way.
I wonder if my mother will see it in the same way. I'm very curious. Even though my Mom is very cool (she says worldly people who don't cuss at all are pretentious), I wonder if she will or will not be taken aback by the "poop-monster" and "I'll take head" stuff (which I found to be extremely funny even though I'm a woman - Jay reminds me of someone I find very funny).

Anybody with a religious family out there have any experiences with this? How did the parents take it when you showed Dogma to them?
