DBZ WTF is the appeal of this?

I mean, seriously, why is DBZ so popular? The animation sucks. The story's suck. It's very formula-ic (but then again, so is most anime). I seriously do not understand the appeal that DBZ has drawn and why anyone, besides my 6 year old brother who just doesn't understand anything, would watch such...drivel?

Then again, I could be wrong and DBZ is "da bomb diggity" and that I am too much of a "square" and should go back to watching Love Hina.
