I don't think Columbus is really hailed as much of a hero. He's just given the recognition, that he was the person who opened up the New World to what was then the known World. I mean we all know what an idiot he was, thinking the natives were Indians. A lot of terrible people are "hailed as heroes" but have questionable pasts. Take a look at any number of our four fathers again. Research 'em more so than say a high school history book and you'll find a whole lot of impurity as it were.

Just my two cents... well, one cent is between the couch cushions.
