He was great. I agonized for weeks how to make the most out of my experience. I wanted legitimate advice about the business; not what his favorite color is (though there's a place for that as well). I started out saying, "Just like everybody else here, I'm a writer..."

I was prepared for one of two responses. a) It's a tough business, but if you work hard enough, blah, blah, blah, or b) That's nice. I'm sure you'll do well, now let me sign that swag and get the line moving... I didn't get either. He just looked at me and nodded. "You're a writer?" he said. "That's great."

It doesn't sound like much, but it meant a lot to me. He seemed genuinely interested and treated me with a lot of respect when he answered my questions, even apologizing that he wasn't giving me better advice. He recognized my name from the board (which was cool) and does read nearly everything that gets posted. Very approachable. Very real.

And very stealth.
