: :It's retarded....
: I dont see what the prob is...
: Best two records play.........Duh......
There are 6 teams with 1 loss, 4 at 12-1 and 2 at 11-1. The extra games are because some teams compete for Conference Tournaments, while others do not have a Conference Tournament.
The problem is that College Football is a Billion Dollar Industry, with the overall goal to win the "National Championship". Based only on record, how would you pick which of the 6 gets to play for this title? Normally you would have a playoff system. However, College Football has a Bowl system which matches 56 teams in a 1 game exhibition, which equals numerous paydays. The NCAA isn't willing to give up all of the money generated by the 28 Bowls, just so that there is a champion on the field.
Getting back to this season's problem. The team voted #1 by the newpapers as well as by the Coaches of every Division 1 team, isn't playing in the Championship game. Based on computers, the system matched the #2 and #3 team. Therefore, this year there is a potential for 2 teams to claim they are the #1 team in the country.
If this is over your head, just reflect on: there are 6 teams who only lost 1 game. Who gets to play for the Championship game?
