: I'm not talking about how the African American culture has developed. The African American culture, past the surface bullshit about bling and guns and thugs and the gayness you get off of LAUNCHAOL, is amazing. Especially when you consider where it all came from: Africa, and Africa's rich cultural history.
: I'm TALKING about the bullshit they push on the youth and how it makes them perceive the black culture. I wouldn't think it too off to say that 9 out of 10 white families don't bother with lessons about current culture or the African American's place in our country's development.
: Therefore when these kids, barely into their pubes, run into this fake world of guns and glitz, they buy it. They get into the music, see the damn movies (LOVE DON'T COST A THING, SAVE THE LAST DANCE, DRUMLINE), and adopt it as something they can identify with.
: Then when they eventually get older, the idea of black culture is less about an in-depth history of a people's struggle to survive on unfriendly shores and more about "that gay shit I was into when I was 12.":
i kind of understand what you are saying, but you keep referring to it as black culture when most of the things you are commenting on would more accurately described as hip-hop or rap culture. not all black people like hip-hop music and plenty of white people do. there are not a bunch of 60 year black guys going around saying fashizzle on an everyday basis.
