It's the style in which it's written. Having multi-dimensional heroes being with flaws like any other human. Living in a world where a person with unlimited power wouldn't just fly around earth saving people, but would inevitably feel alienated and confused about his role in creation. The issue exploring how Manhattan perceives time and space is seriously one of the best comics I've ever read.
Having a psichotic vigilante not tolerated by the general public, but feared and even doubted by the reader himself. It blows the mind, even at the emd you're not quite sure who is "good" and who is "evil", and it's pretty obvious in the answer that you can't know because the world doesn't work that way.
Those things seem pretty common now, but Moore was one of the ones that did it first and best. it's excellenty written and the art is superb. If the main thing for you is having an inpecable whodunnit then I guess this kind of thing wouldn't be your bag.
