: I used to be really into the X-Men but...

: Ick, these days its so dark and dysfunctional, you know?

I feel the exact same way... I was reading wizard and (spoiler alert)that xorn character ended up being magneto... Kinda made me wish I kept up.

: The whole point of the X-Men used to be that they were facing down insanely dark future after insanely dark future, mutant holocaust after mutant holocaust... but at the end of the day, they themselves stayed a family and they themselves stayed hopeful.

Yep... but at the same time not feeling sitcomish where they reset to where they started at the end of every issue.

: I can deal with there being too many damn characters and too many damn books... but Jesus, does it have to be so hopeless and Matrix-y?

I dont really get your analogy but i like the oads of books and characters... makes me feel involved... the one exception is the x-statix... dont get me wrong its a great book, but it shouldnt be considered an x book... its kinda like stan lees take on the DC universe.

: But that I could get on those books, hit the reset button somehow and make them secret again and give them costumes again and... even if you needed a hokey time-travel explanation, come on, someone needs to get in there and lighten things up a little.

I think the art has a whole lot to do wit the drab feeling lately... There were a few months back when they had a japanese anime artist work on it and I was so right back into it.

: Fantastic Four's still good... cherry-picking around DC still bears some fruit, "Formerly Known As" is good, JLA has its moments...

I was raised marvel so I know all about cherry picking the DCU... I skiped lees entire batman run.. Currently i have been enjoying "worlds finest" or superman/batman whatever they are calling it. Thats in addition to the vertigo books

: Liberty Meadows is beautiful to look at, even though it grows more obsessed with its lame weird soap opera subplot instead of being a hit-or-miss funny Bloom County rip-off, which is what its best at...

Never readit but I will check itout on your quasi recomendation...

: I really think that the next big trend in comics is going to be the return of the comedy book. Or at least, it should be.

I like comedy books but I dont find myself returning every month for them... As far as non-super hero boooksI do enjoy strangers in paradise and I kinda dug that "touble" mini series marvel just wrapped up.
