Thank you for confirming for me. The line about trying not to be a mutant was what sparked it for me. Once it was in my head, I saw all sorts of things that I thought related to sexual orientation. There was a line where Nightcrawler asked - what's her name? The one who can morph into anyone . . . "Why don't you just make yourself look 'normal' all the time?" (I am, of course, paraphrasing wildly.) She answered, "Because we shouldn't have to." I also thought Rogue and (was it Bobby?) not being able to be intimate w/out her hurting/killing him was a comment on the struggles of people w/Aids. I know I saw more, but they're not coming immediately to mind right now.
: : I developed a theory about a metaphor in the movie, but I haven't read it anywhere and am constantly accused of reading too much into things.
: Depends on what metaphor your going for. Growing up how I am, I identified greatly with the weaving of Bobby Drake's plot. I've had my mom ask me, "couldnt you try not being gay?" and then ask if I could at least become a priest.
: I think there were metaphors throughout the film that apply not only to sexual orientation, but racial and gender issues as well.
