Isn't this just a hair away from being an "A film by" credit? I know I'm being anal, but the second I saw it I thought "Kevin is gonna be pissed."

I'm guessing Kevin didn't OK this poster.
He okayed the image, but fought the inclusion of that line. Ultimately, he was told to "Grow up" by the chairman of the company, and had to settle for the removal of "A Film By..." in the credit block at the bottom of the poster.
I remember reading many places that Kevin Smith wouldn't take a "film by" credit.
You remember correctly. And when I pointed this out, I was told "You have to accept the fact that, six films in, you are now a marketing tool as well."
