... at the turnout of responses. Still awaiting responses from the winners. Sorry for the delay - I had about two hundred and fifty responses. That's not counting the joke e-mails, or the really ugly responses, calling me names, demanding DVDs etc. I've started e-mailing winners though.
Out of all those entries... only two had every answer correct, and they were days apart! To those who didn't enter... enter next time, you've got a better chance than you think.
UNIT ONE: QUESTIONS ABOUT FILMS YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN ALREADY
(THE GODFATHER gets five questions. Why? 'Cause it's THE GODFATHER.)
1. What's the name of the beheaded horse?
- Khartoum
2. In the "Sicilian message" about Luca Brasi's fate, what is the fish wrapped in?
- His bulletproof vest, and brown paper - I accepted both or either
3. What relation is Tom Hagen to Michael Corleone?
- No relation, but they think of him as a brother. I accepted "adopted brother", "honorary brother", etc.
4. Apollonia boasts about her knowledge of English by listing what?
- the days of the week
5. How many times is the word "mafia" used?
- Never.
6. In THE MATRIX, what's the name of Morpheus' hovercraft?
- The Nebuchadnezzar. Is that how it's spelled? I didn't bother checking. But if it was remotely like that, I accepted it.
7. What is the model number of the Terminator, as played by Arnold Schwarzenegger?
- His MODEL NUMBER is 101.
8. At one point in 12 MONKEYS, Cole wakes up in the 2030's, and the scientists sign to him. What song are they singing?
- Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill".
9. Who wrote the following dialogue: "I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?" 10. What does Jules call Roger in PULP FICTION?
- Either Dean Reisner or John Milius. They both rewrote the script, and it's almost surely Milius who wrote it, but they've both taken credit. As long as one of them was mentioned, I accepted it.
UNIT TWO: ASKEW CRAPPER CHRISTMAS SPECIAL QUESTIONS
11. According to (Tom's) Flash, who killed Inigo Montoya's father?
- Chat Askew's various members. I quite liked his strip, too.
12. What was Joe Parrillo's son made of, according to the doctor?
- Mucus & sputum. God, I hated that "column". Stuff like this is what drove away readers.
13. According to Lumley, what films are the antithesis of Hollywood?
- Soviet Montage. See, I liked this column.
14. Jane Nolan makes one exception when she says it would be wise for men to stay away. Who?
- Orlando Bloom. SOme columns are alright, but a bit bloggish...
15. Speaking of gushing over "Lord Of The Rings" stars... what cOlumnist uRges yOu to see RETURN OF THE KING?
- sAm. Not even a column, really. Just an odd self-serving blog... I like the guy, he's funny enough, but I don't like his Askewcrapper stuff. Those cartoons? Stupid (except the fish one)
16. What is alive without breath, as cold as death; Never thirsty, ever drinking, all in mail never clinking?
- A fish. You should all have gotten that.
17. Linnitt duFlon chose to portray herself as a big girl, because she had been accused of being what?
- a "sizist". Again with the blogging! ;O)
18. Steve Kilpatrick believes the Ten Commandments were what?
- New Year's Resolutions for God
19. What Weezer song is referenced on page two of Balfe & Kenny's Father Flash Christmas special?
- Look at the posters on the wall:http://askewcrapper.com/striptease/12232003b.htm
"I've got Kitty Pryde
And Nightcrawler too
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do...
I've got posters on the wall
My favorite rock group Kiss
I've got Ace Frehley
I've got Peter Criss
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do..."
Yup, "In The Garage" by Weezer. Oh, so many people got that wrong... they all thought it was a trick question. I have to say, this strip was my favorite part of the AC Christmas Special. Not that I'm biased.
20. Where did Noga say "here" was?
- Israel. I thought that column was nice.
UNIT THREE: SINCE I'M SHAMELESSLY PANDERING TO THE ONLINE COMMUNITY, HERE ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT COMICS
21. What was Time magazine's number one best comic for 2003 (or "comix" if you want to nitpick)?
- Craig Thompson's "Blankets"
22. For "Spider-Man Unlimited", what villain did Brian Lynch bring back?
- Slyde! And it's hilarious.
23. In "The Dark Knight Returns", who shot Superman with synthetic kryptonite?
- Oliver "Green Arrow" Queen
24. What was the occupation of the Saint Of Killers before he got married?
- A scalphunter and assassin. I accepted both or either.
25. In "The Sundays", what is the name of Stuart Sunday's Dad?
- Richard Sunday. One guy thanked me for letting him find out about the comic. Scott and Kevin, you've got fans out there.
UNIT FOUR: VERY, VERY HARD MOVIE QUOTES! GUESS THE MOVIE!
26. "And now, folks, it's time for "Who do you trust!" Hubba, hubba, hubba! Money, money, money! Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money. And where is the Batman? HE'S AT HOME WASHING HIS TIGHTS!"
- BATMAN. Tim Burton's 1989 film.
27. "Me fifth element - supreme being. Me protect you."
- THE FIFTH ELEMENT
28. "Seven-six-two millimeter. Full. Metal. Jacket."
- FULL METAL JACKET
29. "Goonies never say die!"
- GOONIES
30. "You know, we always called each other goodfellas."
- GOODFELLAS
I have to ask: HOW COULD SO MANY OF YOU HAVE GOTTEN THE PRECEDING FEW QUESTIONS WRONG? I MEAN, REALLY.
UNIT FIVE: RANDOM QUESTIONS
31. What Bob Marley song mentions the nuclear threat?
- "Survival". I would have also accepted "Redemption Song".
32. In the epic "Paradise Lost", what are the names of Satan's children?
- Sin & Death
33. What is a Camberwell Carrot?
= If any of you had ever watched WITHNAIL & I, this would have been easy. It is drug dealer Danny's design - an extremely large marijuana joint, using "no less than 12 papers". He invented it in Camberwell... and it looks like a carrot.
34. Who was Time Magazine's Person Of The Year in 1938?
- Adolf Hitler
35. You're sitting in a car, and beside you is a helium balloon suspended from the seat, but otherwise not in contact with the car. The car turns a corner, and you're pushed towards the left. How does the helium balloon move with respect to the car?
- It goes to the right. I don't care if you have an answer to the contrary; MY answer is all over the internet on various sites, and due to the varying answers, I've tested it myself. It goes to the right.
Thanks to all the nice people who entered. I'll definitely do it again, if I do another comic. In the meantime, tell everyone about "Father Flash" and how great it is.
Just kidding.
