Because it's the best drama on broadcast TV.
I'm hooked on CSI. Both Vegas & Miami. I've also got hooked on the novels which are just as good.
I can see why NYC was picked. But I think Boston would have been nice. Just to mix in the elements of snow from time to time. But NYC will do.
Rumor has it there is a new twist this time around. I have no idea what it could be.
