To be fair, I have never read his books. However, the sense I get from his films are that he makes simply makes incomplete and unsound arguments and just adds some smoke/style to make them appear convincing. He is persuasive enough to fool people that are highly emotional and that are unable to see the holes in his logic. Unfortunately, there are quite a few of these people and he seems to have a decent following.
