While I know Jon Lovitz was no substitute - I will be totally honest. Phil Hartman was actually number 3 on my list of favorite characters on the show. Starting with Stephen Root as a BIG number one and seconded by Dave Foley. I'm not saying Phil wasnt missed, but I still thought the writing was top notch.
