I thought Gene Wilder was best for the role, and see no reason for Hollywood to keep insisting on doing "reimaginings" of already near-flawless movies.

Sure, why not? Maybe he could have Depp wear scissors on his hands and throw in some guys with jack-o-lanterns for heads while he's at it. Then he could get one of the gals from the band Veruca Salt to actually PLAY Veruca Salt. Burton's wacky like that.
