KINO VIDEO did a fabulous job bringing most of the KEATON silent catalogue to DVD...they are truly fantastic...Check out THE GENERAL, SHERLOCK JR. or OUR HOSPITALITY!!!!
I know somebody (Warners?) just recently reissued a majority of the later period CHAPLIN silent stuff...I heard the quality was okay, but that's just hearsay. MODERN TIMES, THE GOLD RUSH or CITY LIGHTS are your best bets in the Chaplin catalogue.
Just my introductory rec's for getting into either Artist. (Personally, I've always MUCH prefered Keaton to Chaplin, but that's just me.....)
