i havent seen it yet, so I cant really comment on the antisemitism
thing. the gore thing isnt a big deal; i think to know/understand
christs sacrifice one needs to know the severity of the conditions/
torture/hardship he endured, be it through violent images, violent
passages in scripture (theres no bloodier book than the old
testament), whatever...
i do however object/take offense to gibsons marketing/promotion of
the film. saying the film is more or less the holyghost's doing is
more than a little cheap and misconstruing (sp?) the popes words
just to sqeeze out a lame endorsement is a low blow.
and he did plenty more than that; taking it to politically affiliated
organizations to gain support/brace for backlash is, if nothing else
chickenshit. i mean, at least believe its good enough as art that it
can speak for itself, especially if the film really is the work of the holy
ghost.
all those things, plus my (limited) past knowledge of mels personal
religious/cultural beliefs makes me suspect propaganda and say
'probably so' to the antisemitism charge, but if you can get the money
to make it, it should be made. always against censorship.
peace
