At exactly 1.07am GMT on February 26th, 2003, I became a poster on this most illustrious of WWWBoards. One year and 55 minutes on, I'm still here, and I feel this is cause for me to share a few musings with y'all.
1) It's very weird to think that we're truly going to be sharing View Askew with the mainstream in a couple of weeks time. Very exciting and very cool, but I'm really hoping that the general public will take to Kevin's earlier movies as well as I'm thinking they will to Jersey Girl.
2) The board certainly seems like a much bigger place. The whole Askewniverse is opening up, and it's all the better for it. Sure, we get a few more over-excited newbies and a couple of extra people who seem to invite flaming, but I'm enjoying reading the board more than ever.
3) Elmo Machete, where are you?
4) Punch-Drunk Bob, remember in July last year we briefly e-mailed each other about a kid who'd sent me a script and it sucked balls? Just in case you read this, just thought I'd let you know that whenever I feel a bit creatively stunted, I flick through the 'masterpiece' known as Machine Guns and Coffee and think to myself: "Shit. I'm SO much better than this."
5) I love Mallrats more now that I ever have.
6) Chasing Amy gets me laid.
7) In 10 years time, I hope to be where Kevin is now. No, I WILL be where Kevin is now. (And I don't mean I'm going to kill him and have plastic surgery to look and sound like him, replacing him completely - I mean career and success-wise)
8) I'm a man. I have chemically straightened hair. I wear hairbands. I'm overweight. Somehow, despite my podginess, having good hair makes me more attractive to women. I like long hair.
9) I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to see Big Helium Dog, The Next Muppet Movie, and a multi-million dollar grossing Brian Lynch written, Kevin Smith directed movie featuring Choo Choo Andee in a starring role. Get to work, men!
10) It's 2am, I'm really tired, but I've just finished writing one of the best things I think I'll ever write. Lemme tell y'all a story. I've written 2 movies that I want to make. I wrote Movie 1 to make now on a very small budget, locally outside London, and it's pretty mainstream. Movie 2 was written to be made after Movie 1 because I can only see it being made with a big budget. My dilemma is this: Someone wants to give me money to make Movie 2, but with the kind of cash Movie 1 would only just scrape through on - I turned them down. Am I an ass?
Responses to my pointless musings would be much appreciated.
Brian Lynch, marry me.
I'm not a gay.
