The movie spins the truth to exaggerate the Jewish people's role in the death of Jesus, and spin the story into a shorter version, focusing on the death and pain and horror, and not his life and his teachings.
They're not common in the south, but there are many Christians that get upset when people go around calling a movie like that "The true story".
