: is the Italians aren't usually blamed for killing Christ but the Jews are. When's the last time someone went up to one of your Italian friends and spit on them and screamed, "THE ITALIANS KILLED CHRIST?" I would like to know the answer to that question. I know that my Italian friends were never persecuted for killing Christ.
I don't see Christians running around spitting on Jews in the streets for what happened to Jesus. It wasn't an anti-Christian thing, there were no Christians then. Back than under Judaic law, a man was stoned to death for simply uttering God's name. Now, a young Jew comes along not only doing that, but claiming to be the son of God. Who would expect the traditional Judaic society to embrace a man like that, no matter how positive his message was?
Take all religious conotations out of the situation, from a purely cinematic vantage point, the Jesus story is an absolutely compelling one. Did the British come out in protest of Ghandi? No, celebrate the man, and the message. He's one of the few historical characters who proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he practiced what he preached, and here's the final showing of his turning the other cheek.
Shit, like i've said i'm not religious, but the actress playing the Virgin Mary is a Jewish woman and daughter of Holocaust survivors. Now, if she doesn't have a problem with it, who am i to argue?
