: i am doing bikram yoga right now, which is yoga done in a 110 degree room for an
hour and a half. its hard as hell. you sweat like a pig. What are the health benefits (if
any) is there from sweating like a pig? Weight lose? Better skin? Rasing your
immune system?

~ there are several benefits to be gained from sweating. Sweating is your body's
response to overheating. Plus your skin is your largest organ. It regulates your
temperature when you are too hot and as a side benefit the stuff you call sweat isn't
just water, it carries toxins. Normally your kidneys and liver have the burden of
eliminating toxins from your system so when you sweat you're giving them a break
and using your skin. As your body temperature rises it has the mini effect on killing
any low grade virus you might have..much like a fever. On the down side if you are
already sick, it won't help. Many cultures still adhere to the sauna as a health
tool..and it is.
