While both are acceptable, the two 'l' version is more correct.
Words with two vowels directly preceeding the suffix do not require that an additional 'l' be added. Examples would be words like 'fail' and 'wheel'.
On the other hand, words that end in 'l' with one vowel directly preceeding the suffix must have an additional 'l' added, as is the case here.
