: I have my first appointment ever at 3:30 today.

congratulations, welcome to the world of bone cracking...you’ll be taller, more confident, and animals and children will love you now.

: I am a little nervous about the whole thing.

that's normal... but get over it already! you posted this like a whole minute ago! are you gonna dwell on this forever?

: First and foremost I don't want it to hurt either while he is doing it, or later on tonight.

if he/she does it right, it will not, just the opposite actually. i used to go regularly, just for the 'fresh bone' feeling it gives me...similar, but not precisely like, my monthly colonics.

: Also I hear that once you go once you have to keep going? Is that true?

there are two schools of chiro in my experience:

1. the people who want to make ya better so ya never have to come back (this is not a pun)
b. the people who want your money, and think you need a cot in the back (this isn’t either)

if you get the first type, stick with them, if you get the second, try another. in a perfect world, assuming you have no back or neck issues, a chiropractor is someone you need not visit more than once a year, for tweaking.

: Will he prescribe me a pain killer if my back is going to hurt afterwards?

it won't, and he cant. i don’t believe (this might depend on your state/locale/country/plane of existence) chiropractors can prescribe medicine...they aren’t *real* doctors, after all.
