stick with it. its one of those books were details are extremly important. THe book would be 20 pages if not for long, drawn out passages. The murder and sex scenes go on for pages (probably the most graphic book ever written), as do the whitney houston and self grooming sections. It gets grating reading about this yuppie asshole applying face cream for 5 pages, but its worth reading just for the 4 pages of him killing a cat.
