: Jolie came to the audience for a commercial break and was swarmed by all these sreaming/
crying fans. Which would be like, no big deal at all because if Kevin came into the audience it
would be much more exclusive for us because the people we were sitting near had no idea who
Kevin was.
And here's the crux of the problem, really. See, usually at the "Tonight Show", I am persona non
grata with the folks in the audience. Most of them have never heard of me. So for me to head
into the audience and be like "Alright, who wants to meet me? Who wants my autograph?" during
a commercial break would (nine times out of ten) lead to confused looks and nervous parents
pulling their kids closer to them.
At a comic book show or college gig? I get it. I KNOW the audience is there for me. At
something like "Leno", most of the audience is there for the musical group (that's how the show's
booked, mostly - fans of the musical act) or maybe the first guest, or Jay. Rarely... RARELY is
anyone there for me. So I never wade out into the audience. It feels too presumptuous.
I have, on the other hand, signed things at the show, from time to time, when someone's rushed
the stage or held out something for me to sign, clearly indicating that they're looking for a
signature. Not saying it's your fault, but had you done that, you would've most definitely gotten
what you were looking for.
: And when Kevin came out we yelled so loud the people in front of us turned around, probably
confused at how excited we were.
That was you? I appreciated that.
: After the show he was talking to some other chick on the other side of the set.
That was Debbie Vickers, the show's producer. She's the one who set me up with the "Roadside"
gig in the first place.
: We waited at the parking lot exit for a while for him. We took off like, 20 minutes after Jay left.
I left about an hour after Jay. I was sitting around, talking to Andy McElfresh (the gent I do the
"Roadside" pieces with) about our next piece.
: I'm still sad about the whole thing.
Don't be sad, hon. Just come see me at a function that's all mine (a screening Q&A, a comic book
show, etc. - I do it quite frequently around L.A.), where there will be no confusion.
