I think he misses the point. First off, Ollie makes a really public blunder and seeing that his whole job is publicity spinning - it obviously hurts his career.
Secondly, I think Honeycutt doesn't understand that it's not just that Ollie CAN'T get a job. It's more that after getting refused initially in the fallout of his public snafu, he is still dealing with the loss of his wife and becoming a father. He resolves himself to become a better father and always being there for young Gertie (see the scene when Ollie speaks to his little girl while, Bart looks on from the hallway). It's more of a series of circumstances and decisions that Ollie doesn't get another gig in the PR field - not that he just can't do it.
So Honeycutt is remiss in his assesment that Ollie's job situation, or lack thereof, is implausible given his talents.
