Hi Kevin,
I was at your recent Toronto gig and stood the entire time but never got to ask you my question. I'm a documentary filmmaker as well as a huge fan. I've done my homework and I'm wondering if you'd consider allowing me to make a doc on you. I'm a true independent and self taught. My most recent film is being honoured next month at the Istanbul Film Festival. It has apparently opened the doors for much needed assistance for children affected. It is called 'Odd Kid Out' and is about children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. My view is quite a radical shift from conventional thinking on the topic. (Although I had done a few trial shorts prior, this film is being regarded as my first). I raised the budget myself ($250,000.)
You have been an inspiration to me for many years. In fact, I have probably introduced my son to your work a little early...he is now 14 and is also a huge fan. You might remember him. He was the younger boy at the Roy Thompson Hall evening who fumbled his question and you were kind enough to allow him a hug instead. He is the hero in his school right now, for just that.
As for my work, I wish to tell stories of those who are either challenged or who challenge. If you are at all inclined to discuss this, please visit my website. My contact info is there.
Thanks for the consideration and best of luck. It's always nice to know that there are those who have taken the chance and made it happen. I shall remain inspired.
Sincerely,
Karen
