OK, I'm just going to ask (at the end of my query):
I'm NOT going to make a blanket statement and say EVERYONE mentions that they "can't stand J.Lo." But a GOOD AMOUNT of folks - here and other places - just make these statements about her as if they have a clue as to what she is really like. And it seems like it’s become so in-fashion to disparage her. People just nonchalantly say things like: “With the exception of Jennifer Lopez…” or “Good thing she’s only around for 12 minutes…”
People speak about her as if she just ran over their dog, got out of the car, kicked it, laughed and drove off.
I understand that fans have certain preferences, i.e. "I like his work in that" or "She turned in quite a performance in this." Sure, have your opinions. She was good in ‘Out of Sight’ and ‘The Cell’ (and JG, for that matter)…I mean, shit - even my favorite actors have “mailed in” a few performances.
But, since when did not being particularly into a person's work turn into, "Oh, I fucking can't stand so-and-so!" or "She is so this-or-that." I usually ask a person who makes such a statement, "Oh do you know her? What did she do?" And they usually respond with something like, "No…uh…I don't know, I just can't stand her." Rarely do these discussions focus on perceived talent or lack thereof. More specifically, I find it’s never an informed, thoughtful discussion.
There is also the sad fact that way too many people obsess/discuss celebrities they don't know...but that's a whole other form of psychosis I find fascinating. I know that statement seems like blatant hypocrisy considering the content of this post, but I don't form such strong opinions about celebrities (Other than the fact that Kevin Smith Rules) - I've just NOTICED this harsh trend and I am wondering what the source of it is.
So help me out:
