: And I find it odd that he feels DOGMA is more cutting-edge than this movie, granted the reasons he's giving for not finding JG original. Is DOGMA the first movie made about Catholic theology? Is it even the first slapstick comedy made about Catholic theology? Is CLERKS the very first dialogue-driven buddy movie ever? I just don't get it.
...is the first movie to take theology seriously, to have it articulately debated by its characters, both human and fanciful, while also having affectionate drug dealer characters, jokes about anal sex, a poop monster and a touching, funny moment during the climax in which one of the lovable drug dealers refers to God as a "bitch" and then indicates later that he was given an erection when God kissed him.
While I seriously disagree with Mr. Ansen on the subject of Mr. Affleck's charisma, I'd say that he has a point here. DOGMA is indeed one of a kind.
