: Not "dudeS" as in "dudeS in general".

: : The film doesn't follow the "chick flick" formula. The focus is on the relationship between Ben and his daughter, not the relationship between Ben and Liv and THAT makes the difference.

: I think most people think of parent-and-child movies (assuming they are somewhat light-hearted, rather than twisted horror-stories a la MOMMIE DEAREST or BOOGIE NIGHTS or what have you) as chick flicks. "About a Boy", that sort of thing. Point being it's clear that the reviewer doesn't like sentimental movies in general.

-- I haven't seen 'Jersey Girl', but it didn't sound like the guy disliked the film because of its sentimentality, rather that he didn't buy into how it was presented or whatever. Sentimentality doesn't have to be a negative thing, but if its handled badly it can be pretty painful. I've got enough faith in Kevin based on 'Chasing Amy' that he can pull it off in 'Jersey Girl', but if this guy didn't then I don't think its fair to accuse him of being some macho dick-head who's not emotionally secure.
