The move apparently was made several weeks ago with no formal announcement from NBC. When Richards ceased appearing in the credits, I put in a call to an "SNL" spokesman who offered only a cryptic explanation. "The show made a shift in the cast and that's all we really have to say," he said, before adding, "truthfully, the cast was large to begin with."
Attempts to reach Richards for comment so far have proved fruitless, which leaves us free to speculate. The Las Lomas High school grad, mostly known for his "Drunk Girl" character, wasn't getting a lot of camera time by any means on the show this season. As a three-year veteran of the "SNL," he likely was unhappy with his situation or the producers were unhappy with him, or both.
