Mis-casting Jersey Girl? I don't think so.

I'm not going to reprint the review Chris Garcia of the Austin American-Statesman gave of Jersey Girl, which he saw at SXSW. It's mean and nasty -- not just about the film, but about Kevin and his fans, too. But I felt compelled to copy just a small portion of it (where you'll see hints of what I was talking about) -- because he's so dead wrong that I think it negates his entire review:

"People over 22 not only applaud man-boy Kevin Smith but fawn over the writer-director of such juvenilia as "Mallrats," "Dogma," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and, now, "Jersey Girl," which got a special sneak Sunday night at the Paramount during SXSW. Starring a badly miscast Ben Affleck..."

Um, how could Affleck be "miscast" if the movie was written FOR HIM?! (Besides which, Ben's great in the movie and, I think, completely believable.)

Hints of nastiness: "man-boy Kevin Smith", "juvenalia"

I hope this guy's having a better day today and isn't feeling the need to slam everyone around him.....
