: I was editing last night and crancked out my sound effects CDs. Then I noticed the CDs said that any commercial use of the sfx tracks is a violation of copyright law. Well this project I'm making...I do plan on making it available for the public to buy, so I guess that's "commercial" use.
wherefore quotes on commercial? is the end result of your creative work to be sold to the unwashed masses? if so, then that falls under the umbrella of commercial, does it not?
: So what gives? Sfx CDs are only to buy and listen to, but you can't use them?
in a commercial way, yeah… didn’t you just state that above? now if you want to play spooky noises for the trick or treaters come halloween, you are good as gold, but if you want to make a film which you intend to sell, and knowingly use these folks' property, well then, you just committed a law breaky thingy.
if i were you, i would go ahead and use them, but i wouldn’t announce it on a board that has, within the last year, twice had people seeking me out for legal reasons.
