I’ve read some interesting reviews of Jersey Girl lately, but one has kind of bugged me. James Berardinelli of ReelViews wrote he hadn’t “believed in the characters and their situations”. What the hell do you want? Did he want to see reality? I could give him reality. I’m a 33 year old father of a four year girl whose Mother died in front of her and in my arms on our bedroom floor this past December 16. That’s my reality. Does he want to see the little girls first birthday, first Christmas and all the first holidays she’s going to have without her Mother? Does he want to see every lousy tear and heartbreak? People in general are “too cool for school” these days they won’t even let themselves be entertained without bitching about something. Well, I’m not anymore. I’m a Dad who loves his daughter totally and misses his Wife more than any words can say. Fuck reality, I don’t need anymore of it especially if I’m going to a movie.
My Wife was a HUGE Kevin Smith fan (I’m a fan, but not as much as she), and I’m going to go Friday to see Jersey Girl. It’s going to be hard, but I’m going to do it. F Berardinelli and his reality.
