Whitey makes a remark about Bud's girlfriend being "colored" though (played by the super
hot Marley Shelton, I might add).
Movie works on a ridiculous amount of levels. Gary Ross should've been nominated for this
instead of Seabiscuit (not that I didn't like that horse movie).
I think the problem with cinema today is that audiences aren't as savvy as they used to be
(as a whole). Sure, everyone on this board is, but the average movie goer goes in looking to
shut their brain off for 2 hours. I prefer to watch a movie that engages me on a mental and/
or emotional level.
Good litmus tests are:
Pleasantville
Lost in Translation
Any movie written by Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine, Being John Malkovich,
etc.)
Wyatt Earp or Tombstone (picking one over the other...)
I used to have a longer list, this was the best I could come up with off the top of my head...
oh! JFK, Nixon, Natural Born Killers...
Kill Bill...
Chasing Amy...
