And don't forget our Preorder items.
April 30th, 1999
I've read the first draft of the 'Clerks' pilot (by me and Dave Mandel), and I must say...
It's pretty fucking funny.
It's also ninety seven pages, which means there's a world of cutting ahead of us. Thankfully, it'll just be a
matter of losing good material in favor of the better stuff we'll keep. Not a bad position to be in, that.
Our work at Skywalker comes to a close, and so I'm outie tonight, bound for home (after three weeks
away). The movie sounds phenomenal. Kudos to Gary, Tom, Phil Richard, Shannon, Juan, Shari, Joe, and
everyone who smoothed the flick out aurally, and even improved it in places.
Next week, there's a table-reading on the show out in LA, where Brian and Jeff will climb into their
respective roles for the first time in five years. Jay will be there too, but he's - of course - been down the Jay
path since his first outing (hell - he lives it). Should be a good time.
It's been an eventful trip, to say the least, and I'll be happy to tread the mother-soil anew.
Gotta carry that bride o' mine 'cross the threshold, ya know.
Thanks for giving me something to do during the mix.
April 26th, 1999
People have called me many things. But the first time I was officially called 'husband' was by a Catholic
Monk, yesterday afternoon.
At twelve thirty on Sunday, Jen and I got married.
On Skywalker Ranch, no less.
She never looked more beautiful, and I got to wear my zipper sweatshirt and a 'Jay and Silent Bob' shirt. It
was extremely spur of the moment (as spur of the moment as it could be, considering Jen's now eight
months pregnant), and very private (Scott, Monica, Jen's friend Lisa and her boyfriend Keith, the Monk,
and us), but you couldn't ask for a sweeter affair. I urge any of you contemplating marriage - do it quickly
and quietly - there's always time for a big shindig later.
As for the experience, I can say only this - you've never really seen your future until you've glimpsed it
reflected in the eyes of the person standing across from you on the altar. But when you see it...
Then you REALLY know what love is.
Thought you'd all like to know.
Send cash gifts to...
Just kidding.
April 22nd, 1999
I would like to point out, however, that as a 'special screening', we're in
such historically esteemed company as 'Blues Brothers 2000' and 'Godzilla'
(amongst many more reputable films, over the years, including
'Trainspotting' and 'Reservoir Dogs'). Just wanted to keep things in
perspective.
But we're in, and that's fantastic, because now the flick'll finally get
seen by the press and the critics, and we'll just see if it's considered a
'controversial' film or not. My bet? They dismiss it as harmless; maybe
even an inconsequential entertainment (wouldn't that be nice? Then we
could put this whole brouhaha behind us and get down to the business of
enjoying the flick for what it is).
My only regret in not having gotten into the competition is that Affleck
won't pick up any awards (at least not for almost a year). The whole cast
is wonderful, but Affleck broke through his ceiling on this flick, and
deserves a heap o' kudos.
And my only other regret in regards to Cannes...
Now I've gotta squeeze my fat ass into a damn tux.

Now for the irony: it's on DVD. [NOTE: This SE will also be out on LD]
Looks like it'll be released sometime after January (the advance on these things is 120 days from delivery of materials),
and it'll include the trailer, the video, and all that extra footage some of you have seen. We're also working on getting
some dear friends in for a little commentary action, and the box art is going the be the theatrical artwork (thank the Lord).

That age-old question "What ever happened to Randal?"
The newfound answer: "Why, he's in 'Dogma', of course."
That's right - Jeff came to town for a quick cameo in the gun shop scene. He turned in a great peformance - one that made this ol'
romantic pine for days of yore. He held his own (and then some) against the Golden Boys, and closed out the day nicely when he
said to me "It was nice being behind the counter with you again."

Had a meeting with Salma Hayek this morning. She was really, really, really, really smart. And funny. And insightful
about the script.
That's all I'm going to say.
Also...
The Gala (which I never called it, but seems to be the easiest description for it) will likely be January 5th.
There are only going to be 260 tickets sold, via this site.
When, we're not sure. But we'll be giving folks the heads up before they go on sale.
Yep - VERY insightful about the script...

It's the Monday after Christmas (coincidentally the Monday before New Year's Eve also). The shopping/exchanging aspect to the
Holiday season has passed. But you forgot to get someone a present...
Yourself.
How about this: a mini View Askew Film Fest! Screenings of the three flicks that gave birth to this website, coupled with the
non-fest unveiling of a pair of flicks you've heard tons about, but have yet to see ('A Better Place' and 'Drawing Flies'). Throw
in appearances by some Askew-luminaries and post-screening Q&A, a midnight birthday toast to the one and stinky... I mean
ONLY Kim Loughran, and a t-shirt, and you've got an inkling of what we've got in the planning stages (for the low, low price
of somewhere under fifty bucks).
Anyone interested?
Watch this space for details in the coming weeks.

"Dogma" lands LINDA FIORENTINO
Fresh from "Men in Black," Linda Fiorentino has landed the female lead in "Dogma," the next film for Kevin Smith at Miramax, where
he last directed "Chasing Amy."
Chris Rock will play the role of an angel in the film, which will also star Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Fiorentino scored her biggest splash since "The Last Seduction" with her role as an inquisitive pathologist in "Men in Black."
Rock returns to his HBO show Sept. 12, and hosts the MTV Music Awards Sept. 4. His book, "Rock This," is out from Hyperion this
October. "Dogma" gets under way in February.
[Kev's Note: Chris Rock "won't be playing an angel, as pointed out in the piece. Chris is playing Rufus (and if you don't
know who that is... good)."]
