Driving Directions
NOTES: Driving directions are listed below. The
line of small text under each heading lists likely sources for that route.
We concentrated on finding routes that were easy to follow, and keep you
on the main roads as much as possible. There are many shortcuts or
faster routes you can take, but these directions offer you the basics.
New Jersey is known to have some very confusing highways and interchanges,
so plan ahead, buy or print out maps, etc. Just be safe and be prepared!
More routes will be added soon!

Jay
& Silent Bob's Secret Stash -
35 Broad St.
Jay & Silent Bob's Video Stash:
This MTV special was filmed right inside the Stash!
The Stash is definetly a must for anyone on a
ViewAskew tour of Red Bank. This is where you can buy all that cool
swag you see on the website and in the flicks! Some of the stuff
you can buy here is signed by Kevin. Plus, you never know
who's gonna be down here working the register, signing autographs, or just
hanging out in the joint.
The original Stash was created after Kevin heard
that the local comic book shop was closing down. He bought out the
shop, including all of it's inventory, and re-opened it as Jay & Silent
Bob's Secret Stash. He also added a few choice items to the menu:
swag from the flicks! What started out as a local comic shop and
outlet for Clerks T-shirts and Mallrats posters quickly became a merchandising
empire! The Stash churns out some unbelievable sales figures through
the store itself and through mail and fax orders. The Stash has also
employed some of the actors from the flicks, like Walt
"Fan-Boy" Flanagan, Bryan
"Steve-Dave" Johnson, and even the Lord of Snoogans himself, Jay
Mewes! Brian
Quinn was hired to run the Stash's day-to-day operations after his
stunt at the Staten
Island Mall proved that he was the hardest of hardcore ViewAskew fans.
Since Brian's
departure from ViewAskew in December of '98, Walt
Flanagan has taken over the helm.

ViewAskew Offices
- 3 Harding Rd.
The office itself is NOT
a place where you can visit uninvited. Don't even try. There
are security guards in the lobby and they take no prisoners! But
nothing can stop you from hanging around outside, taking some pictures,
etc. And who knows, you might be lucky enough to spot someone from
the staff, or maybe the big guy himself!

Accommodations
Oyster
Point Hotel & Marina - 146
Bodman Pl. 732-530-8200 (800) 345-3484
$100-$120/Night. All rooms
have full or partial waterfront views!
The Oyster Point also has some ViewAskew historic
significance. It was in room 409 where Vincent first publicly screened
his film, "A Better Place", during the 1998 Vulgarthon. Also, most
of the out-of-town guests for the Chasing Amy Mini-Gala crashed here.
Courtyard
by Marriott - 245
Half Mile Rd. 732-530-5552
$50-$80/Night. No
interesting views, you're lucky if you can see your car!
The Mariott was where most of the fans, cast,
and crew partied during the 1998 Vulgarthon.
Molly
Pitcher Inn & Marina - 88
Riverside Ave. 732-747-2500
$100-$160/Night. 4 room types.
All rooms have full or partial waterfront views!
The Molly Pitcher Inn is next to the Oyster Point
Hotel. No interesting factoids here. Move along, move along...
The
Loop Inn - Rodgers St. @ US Route 1-9, Avenel NJ
732-396-3500
$90-$200/Night, $40-$100/4-Hour Stay. Cheaper weekday
rates. 3 room types. All rooms have hot tubs! No
two rooms are alike!
The Loop is very highly recommended by all that have stayed
there. This is the place to be if you're planning on spending a romantic
evening with your signifigant other. Each room is worth every penny:
one of a kind, elegantly designed, and super-clean. If money is no
object, try one of the Nature Suites or "Jungle Rooms", as the locals call
them. These rooms have two levels, a spiral staircase to join them,
and a private swimming pool with waterfall.
Directions: From US Route 1-9, take the Rodgers St./Inman
Ave. exit, (Just North of Woodbridge, NJ) and look for the hotel just yards
West of the highway, you can't miss it.
NOTES: You are well advised to get to the Loop
as early as possible, especially on weekends. It's common for the
Loop to become booked up for the night by 6PM, and they do NOT take reservations
over the phone. They only accept paid "walk-in" reservations.
Travel
Tips
Most Red Bank visits are just a quick drive into
town, but for those who are flying in from afar, staying for a while, or
are on a low budget, we offer these helpful travel tips:
If you're visiting for a few days, and your trip
is focused on touring View Askew sites or attending a View Askew event,
your best bet is to shack up at one of Red Bank's
fine inns. You'll find that the room and board rates will be
cheaper in Red Bank than in other touristy areas, and if there's any partying
or extra happenings before or after an event, you'll be right in the middle
of the action. Staying in Red Bank will also leave you in close proximity
to New York City, Great
Adventure Theme Park, Seaside
Heights, or Atlantic
City.
If you're planning on flying in and renting a
car, make Atlantic City (ACY) your
destination. The rental rates will be cheaper, and you'll have a
longer but much smoother ride into Red Bank. Just follow the "From
the South" directions listed above. From Atlantic City, you can just
cruise up the Parkway in your borrowed ride, and avoid the expensive and
rowdy trip from Newark or Queens.
If you're traveling on foot, or just looking to drop by during your
trip to New York City or Philadelphia, use the public transporation
systems. They're quick, safe, easy, and inexpensive.
Factoids
-
The address of the original Office
was 69 Broad St., and the address of the original Stash was 69 Monmouth
St.!
-
Jay Mewes has been sighted at various
times and places in and around Red Bank. One lucky fan caught up
with him at a gas station, spotted him a quarter to make a phone call,
and got a sneak peek at the new Jay and Silent Bob action figures, months
before they were released! Another fan says he almost hit Jay with
his car when he dashed across the street! Most of the time, Kevin
and the office staff have no idea where he is. Mewes seems to be
more elusive than The Fugitive!
-
The stunt double that was used for
Jay Mewes in the production of Dogma was discovered by Jay's cousin in
an airport!
-
Kevin's vehicle of choice is a green
Jeep Grand Cherokee!
-
One of the fans who attended the 1998
VulgarThon flew in from Australia for the event!
-
The titles on these Tours-Askew pages
are formatted with the Clerks font at size 37!
