Gadzooks! Where to start. Some of the stuff you're asking for is likely to be (properly) considered confidential business information and the View Askew people won't tell you. Also it's unlikely that Kevin will respond to your post as he's been busy lately. So here's what I can tell you.
To start, go read my article on distribution on the film 411 site(link at the top of the page) for general info on distribution.
: I know Disney drop distribution on "Dogma" and that Lion's Gate has picked it up. I'm doing an informative speech on the delay release on the movie and would like to fill in the spaces.
:
: What Companies did Miramax approach for distribution for "Dogma"?
Probably considered confidential business info. Since Miramax showed the film at Cannes & made a push to do so even though the film was out of competition, it's likely that the Weinsteins wanted publicity to help shop the film. Cannes is a film market as well as a film festival, and it was known that Dogma was on the shopping block. So they probably approached everybody that was a major or medium sized distribution company.
Artisan was spoken about several times, but as it turns out they only wanted video rights. It's unusual to break out video from theatrical/video/tv for a film of this caliber so the Artisan deal was a nonstarter.
:
: Did each company that turned down the distribution, turn it down because they didn't like the controversy that might arise?
Don't know & nobody's talking.
:
: If you know anything that might be usefull, could you please fill it in?
Scroll through a few boards for Kevin's post on the financial aspects. The film is in profit from presales to foreign releasing agents, even before domestic release. You might also want to check out my post in the same thread for financial aspects of Dogma's release.
I hope the above helps.
