I drove in from Long Island with a friend of mine, and found a whole new world in Red Bank.
Once we got past the stench pits that greet you as you leave NY, we found it pretty easy going, til we got into Red Bank. Remember that William Shatner episode of Twilight Zone where he gets stuck on that devil fortune teller machine? That's the vibe we got from this town. The Stash was awesome (you guys should open a franchise on LI at Roosevelt Field, LI sheep will flock to a store with a celebrity involved). It's incredible, had everything I was looking for, including all the Invisibles tradepaperbacks I was looking for. The stash rocks.
But two rather disturbing sights...
On W. Front St. there's a store called (I think I'm remembering this right) Red Bank Candles and Sportscards. Okay. Candles I understand. It seems like that street has this whole new age thing going. But Candles and sportcards? I really don't understand.
Also, passing a small deli/something-food-related we noticed a sign that made us really wonder about Red Bank. The sign read (in bold, giant print) "We NOW have FRENCH FRIES". Hmmm. I'm trying to be understanding, but what kind of place can advertise this wonder? Is Red Bank that old school? I saw 3 different circa-1950 vending machines. It really just seemed bizarre.
What's the dilly-yo with Red Bank?
